Summer CHEER Newsletter

***Hi.  Not sure why but my regular email was blocked to many of you so I'm sending out the newsletter in this format too.

Hello everyone!  I hope you are all enjoying summer so far – I cannot believe July is almost over.  I’m writing to give you a heads up for what is coming up in the month of August because it is just a few short weeks away!

Please read the following for important information about practices, camp and upcoming events.

Final Forms

If you haven’t done so already, please go to the Final Forms website and select the sport(s) that your child is going to do and then re-sign each page like you did last year.  After that, your student should also re-sign each page.  All of your contact/insurance/medical information will have been saved but if anything has changed, you may edit it there.  I only have about 10 people on my roster for football and about 8 for basketball so far which means that many of you still need to do this.  When you turn in your physical form to me, I will give it to the Athletic Dept. and they will update that on Final Forms to reflect your new physical expiration date.   If your physical happens over the summer, you can either turn it in directly to the Athletic Department office or wait and give it to me on the first day of practice.  There cannot be a lapse with the physical because I will not be able to let anyone practice if they are not covered.  If you have any questions, please either call or email me and I can help you.  **Basketball girls who are attending cheer camp must have up to date Final Forms information too.

Uniforms

The new Varsity uniforms are here and they look fantastic!  I will pass them out once football practice starts.  JV football will be fitted in the first week for their uniforms because Fall Sports picture day is August 8th. The bows that we will all wear are up on the Varsity team shop and are ready to purchase.  PLEASE ORDER THEM SOONER rather than later since we will need them for pictures.  Go to this website to order them:  http://www.varsitycolors.com/chagrincheer.  The PIN is Cheer.  Click on “Bow” and then you will have to register and then order it.  Let me know if you have any problems.  Unfortunately it can only be shipped by FedEx so the shipping is kind of steep.  The totally is a little over $21 with the shipping.  Sorry about that but it is a very high quality bow!  Please let me know if you have any questions or problems with ordering it.  The basketball squads will be fitted for their uniforms once their season begins in November.

Shoes

If you have not ordered your shoes yet, you need to do so ASAP if you are a football cheerleader.  The shoe is the Nike Sideline III with the color card inserts for the Nike Swoosh.  I listed where to get them in your folder from the May meeting.  You are responsible for getting your own shoes.   Remember that Fall sports pictures are early this year (August 8th) so you will need them at least by that time if you are a football cheerleader.  If you have any problems, let me know.

Football Cheer Practice

Mandatory practice for football cheerleaders begins 2 weeks from today on Tuesday, August 1st from 9am-11:00am.   Please be on time and meet outside the PAC for our first practice.  Wear comfortable clothing, athletic shoes and bring a water bottle.  We will be running and conditioning.

The only hard copies that you will need to turn in to me on the first day of practice are your Physical Form, (if it’s due) the Americheer Camp Medical form (see “Camp Forms”) and the Cheer Constitution agreement I gave you in May.  Like I said earlier, you must have a current physical on file in order to begin practice so please schedule this before the week of August 1st if your physical expires before then.  If your physical expires during your season, please make sure you have your appointment scheduled on the day it expires so that you can bring me your paperwork for the next practice so there will be no lapse in coverage. I cannot let anyone participate in practice if their physical has expired.

Calendar

I will put the calendar that was in your folder from the parent meeting online under “files.”  If you have misplaced yours, you can always go there and print a new one.  I will update the calendar once I have bus times and more updated info on the seasons.  Just a heads up that “Meet the Teams” is on Sunday, August 20th at 7pm.  The football cheerleaders will meet on the track at 6:30pm in uniform.  We will talk more in detail about this at practice.

Cheer Camp

Our camp will be held on Friday, August 4th and Saturday, August 5th.  Please come to the HS Commons on Friday at 8:30am.  BE ON TIME because we start promptly at 9am.  We will have instruction until about 4pm, have some down time, make signs, eat dinner and play some team bonding games.  Parents should pick up at approximately 8:30pm at the High School.  Saturday will start promptly at 8:30am and we will be done by approximately 4:00pm.  It is a good idea to start stretching now in order to prepare your body for the impact of camp.  We will learn a lot of material and hopefully get to know each other with our new squads.

What to Wear to Camp

Friday – black wide strap tank with orange shorts.  You will need to wear athletic shoes and socks as well.  They do not have to be cheer shoes but they need to be supportive for jumping.  Please pull your hair back into a ponytail so it is up and out of your face.  Minimal jewelry.

We are most likely going to go swimming at the Rec Center after instruction is done.  Please bring a towel if you want to swim.  If you would like to shower after that, you may bring toiletries and shower in the HS locker room.  Just make sure everything is in a labeled bag with your name.

Saturday – white wide strap tank with black shorts.  Again you will need to wear athletic shoes and socks and wear your hair in a ponytail.

**It’s fine if your shorts/tank top has small writing or a stripe or whatever on them as long as they are mostly the color that you are supposed to wear that day.

The Americheer instructors usually bring an assortment of spiritwear for sale, so if you are interested in that, you should bring some money – I believe they only take cash.

Camp Food

We are asking everyone attending camp to please bring the following to share with the entire group.  There will be 33 of us in total:

Seniors – bring a LARGE bottle of lemonade, juice or any kind of drink that is not soda.

Freshmen - bring a LARGE bag of chips, pretzels, chex mix, popcorn, or whatever your fave snack item is (IMPORTANT:  NO NUTS)

Sophomores and Juniors -- bring some kind of dessert that serves at least 20 people.  (IMPORTANT:  NO NUTS)

We will need some help with food from parents – we provide the main dishes for the meals but need help with some side dishes.  These girls are very hungry after working  hard at camp!

We need a tossed salad for 33 people (this could be split into two)

We need some cut up fruit for 33 people (again, two people could split this up)

Please email or call me at kandjwood@sbcglobal.net if you can help.  Thank you!

Camp Forms

You will need to bring your camp form filled out and signed by your parent to either practice (football) or camp on Friday morning.  The Americheer instructors will not let you participate if you do not have it.  You were given the form at our meeting in May.  Contact me if you need another one.  This is who has turned in their camp form so far:  Blanks, Boral, Vidmar, Wood, Zaffiro, Catney, Demangone, Edwards, LaMonica, Moore, Relyea, Roush, and Thompson from football.  Gilmore, Kovatch, Ranieri, Steger from basketball.

Things you will need for Camp

  • Water bottle
  • Assigned food item by grade (drink, dessert or snack)
  • Swim suit and towel
  • Toiletries, flip flops and towel for showering if you wish to do so on Friday afternoon
  • Comfy clothes to change into after instruction on Friday
  • Cash money -- only if you are interested in buying spiritwear from the Americheer instructors
  • CAMP MEDICAL FORM

If you have any questions about any of these things, you can email me at kandjwood@sbcglobal.net or call me at 440-477-7672.  Jana and I look forward to seeing all of you in just a few short weeks.  Enjoy the rest of your summer and we know that we are going to have a really great year!

CFHS Cheerleading Summer Newsletter

July 2016

Hello everyone!  I hope everyone is enjoying summer so far – I cannot believe July is almost over.  I’m writing to give you a heads up for what is coming up next week and in the month of August because it is just a few short weeks away!

Uniforms

I have ordered bows for everyone and paid for them - they are $11.  You can just give me cash once your season starts.  We think it makes sense for you to pay for the things that you keep like spankies, bows, shoes, leggings, sweatshirts, etc.  The Varsity squads will need a racer back, black sports bra – the uniforms are cut in at the shoulder blades so a regular sports bra's straps will show.  We will fit the Varsity and JV football squads shortly after we start practice in August.  The basketball squads will be fitted once their season begins in November.

Remember that Fall sports pictures are early this year (August 9th) so you will need them at least by that time if you are a football cheerleader.  If you have any problems, let me know.

Football Team Carwash

The football moms would really like us to help with the car wash and have assured me that we can actually help wash the cars and not just hold the signs at the street.  If you are free please go to the BP station and help.  It is on Sunday, July 31st.  Freshman go from 9:30-11:30, sophomores 11:30-1:30, juniors 1:30-3:30 and seniors 3:30-5pm.  Wear CF spirit wear and wear sunscreen.

Football Cheer Practice

Mandatory practice for football cheerleaders begins on Monday, August 1st from 9am-11:00am.   Please be on time and meet outside the PAC for our first practice.  Wear comfortable clothing, athletic shoes and bring a water bottle.  We will be running and conditioning.

Winter Formal Decorating

Hello all -- just a reminder that we need everyone's help on Saturday, January 30th at 9am to decorate for our fundraiser, Winter Formal.  It has been on the calendar since last Spring, so, unless you have a school sporting event that morning, you should be there to help.  If you haven't already, please let me know ASAP if you cannot be there.  Even if you can come for an hour, that is better than not at all.  It should not take very long -- we will be done definitely by lunch, if not sooner.

This year's theme is "Fire and Ice" and we think it will look really great!  One other thing.  While I cannot make it mandatory that you ask a date and go to the dance, I strongly suggest that you at least go -- just go with some friends in a group, but please go!  We really feel that it doesn't look great when we ask people to buy tickets and come to our amazing dance if we aren't even there to support it ourselves!  :)

Also, please note that all freshman (football and  basketball) are required to stay after the dance for about 20-30 minutes to help clean up -- it comes down a lot faster than it goes up!

Thank you and see you next Saturday, January 30th!

End of cheer season information

Hi all.  We had an unbelievable last game on Friday at West G -- even though we didn't win, it was such an amazing way to end the season with such excitement and school spirit through the very last play!  Thank you all for all of your hard work and dedication this season.  I know it wasn't an easy season to cheer for since we didn't win many games but I really felt like you all did a fantastic job of staying positive and encouraging throughout the whole season.  There are a few things you need to know about the end of the season.

First, the Winter Sports awards are being held on Wednesday, November 18th at 6:30pm in the PAC.  We will all be together with all the Fall sports for about an hour and then we will break off into our individual groups.  Our part is usually pretty short so please join us for a fun recap of the season and to get your hard-earned awards.

Second, I will need everyone (except those of you who are doing basketball) to turn in your uniforms and coats as soon as possible.  Please wash them and put them in a bag marked clearly with your name.  You can turn them in to Mrs. Wooden's office and I will pick them up from there.  We do have basketball pictures very soon so I will need your uniforms and coats by this Friday, November 6th.

Thank you again for a wonderful season and hope to see you on Wednesday, November 18th!

Uniforms

I have received the new bows, poms and uniforms that I ordered so we are all set.  The Varsity squads will need a racer back, black sports bra – the uniforms are cut in at the shoulder blades more than the old uniforms were so a non-racer back sports bra will show.  I will fit the JV football squad for their uniforms shortly after we start practice in August.  The basketball squads will be fitted once their season begins in November.

Shoes

If you have not ordered your shoes yet, you need to do so ASAP if you are a football cheerleader.   We all are getting new shoes this year because the old Asics shoe has been discontinued.  The new shoe is the Nike Sideline III with the color card inserts for the Nike Swoosh.  I listed where to get them in your folder from the May meeting.  You are responsible for getting your own shoes.   Remember that Fall sports pictures are early this year (August 11th) so you will need them at least by that time if you are a football cheerleader.  If you have any problems, let me know.

Please sign up for Final Forms

Hi all.  This is just a quick reminder to please go online to sign up on Final Forms.  Right now I only have 12 people signed up for Football and there are 17 of you.  Of the 12 that have signed up, no one's forms are completely up to date.  First, go to http://cfhs.finalforms.com.  You must select the sport(s) that your child is going to do and then re-sign each page like you did last year.  After that, your student should also re-sign each page.  All of your contact/insurance/medical information will have been saved but if anything has changed, you may edit it there. Most everyone's physicals expire over the summer so please don't forget to get that taken care of!  If you have any questions, please either call or email me and I can help you.  Thank you!  Kristin 440-477-7672 or kandjwood@sbcglobal.net

Cheer Tryout Information for 2015-16

Hello!  Just wanted to let everyone know that it is almost time for tryouts for next school year -- this year has gone by so fast.  The clinic dates are:

Monday, March 16, Tuesday, March 17 and Wednesday, March 18 from 5-7pm at the Gurney Gym.  These are the clinics where we will teach all of the material for tryouts so these are the most important ones to attend.

Review clinic on Monday, March 23 from 5-7pm -- this is where we will review everything and practice it several times.  You will have an opportunity to show and get some input from the coaches and the seniors on your original cheer, if you want.

TRYOUTS -- Thursday, March 26th.  Be at the Gurney gym as soon as you can after school.  We will start between 4-4:30pm and hopefully be finished by 6pmish.  Lots more information is handed out at the clinics about tryouts so we will go over everything then.  Results will be posted that night on the website.

If you will not be here for tryouts, please let Kristin or Lynn know at the first clinic so we can make arrangements to have you tryout before you leave.

If you have any questions, call or email Kristin at kandjwood@sbcglobal.net or 440-477-7672

Good luck!!!
