Chagrin Falls finished off a big week of 5 straight CVC games by winning them all. The Tigers faced their toughest opponent of the 5 tonight as they beat Geneva 5-2. Erik Wilson was outstanding as he recorded his 3rd win of the season. His record is now 3-1. Wilson pitched 6 innings and gave up 1 run on 8 hits as he walked 2 and struck out 2 batters. Ben Cervelloni pitched the final inning giving up a run while walking 3 and striking out a batter.
Trailing 1-0 going into the bottom of the 3rd inning, Chagrin scored 3 times to take the lead. Sam Dolan walked to start the inning and moved to 3rd on a Jack Amendola single to right-centerfield. Sam Dolan and Jack Amendola pulled off the double steal to tie the game at 1-1. Amendola moved to 3rd on a wild pitch and scored on Cole Newbauer’s RBI double. Chagrin took a 3-1 lead when Kyle Zaluski singled home Newbauer.
The Tigers put 2 more runs on the board in the bottom of the 4th inning. Max Faulds and Adam Bencko started the inning with back-to-back singles. After an out was made, Faulds scored when Amendola’s hard hit ball wasn’t handled by the 3rd baseman, putting runners on 2nd and 3rd. Cole Newbauer followed with a ground ball in which Bencko was thrown out at the plate. Amendola moved to 3rd on the play. Newbauer promptly stole 2nd. Amendola scored when Zaluski reached on an error to give Chagrin a 5-1 lead. Geneva scored once in the 7th inning for the final 5-2 score.
Jack Amendola was 2-4 with 2 runs and 2 stolen bases. Cole Newbauer was 1-4 with a double, a stolen base and a run. Kyle Zaluski was 1-3 with an RBI single and a stolen base. Chagrin Falls is now 8-3 overall and 5-0 in the CVC.
