Chagrin Falls stayed hot at the plate and got an excellent start from Cole Weiss on their way to another dominating win by the score of 11-1. Weiss pitched 5 strong innings giving up one unearned run on 2 hits while walking 2 and striking out 8. Weiss picks up his first Varsity win and is 1-0 on the season.
The Tigers scored early and often in the game as they scored in each of the 5 innings. Jack Amendola led off the 1st inning by being hit by a pitch. Amendola moved to 2nd on a wild pitch and stole 3rd. Cole Newbauer singled him home to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. Cole Newbauer stole 2nd and 3rd. Kyle Zaluski followed with a walk and stole 2nd. Erik Wilson singled home Newbauer to make the score 2-0. Zaluski stopped at 3rd on the play. Wilson stole 2nd and Colin Kennedy followed with a walk to load the bases. After 2 outs were made, Adam Bencko walked to bring in Zaluski to make the score 3-0.
Chagrin scored a run in the 2nd inning. Amendola started the inning with a double down the left field line. Amendola stole 3rd and scored on Newbauer’s sacrifice fly to center.
Chagrin Falls scored another run in the 3rd inning. Jack Reboul started the inning with a double to deep left-centerfield. After a ground out moved him to 3rd, Reboul scored on Bencko’s single up the middle to make the score 5-0.
Beachwood cut the lead to 5-1 in the top of the 4th inning but the Tigers came right back with 3 runs in the bottom of the inning. Cole Newbauer started the inning with a double to left-centerfield. Newbauer stole 3rd and scored on Zaluski’s double down the left field line. Wilson followed with a single to put runners on 1st and 3rd. Wilson stole 2nd. Zaluski scored on Kennedy’s sacrifice fly to center. Wilson tagged and moved to 3rd on the throw home. Reboul singled home Wilson to give the Tigers an 8-1 lead.
Chagrin finished the game in the bottom of the 5th inning. Sam Dolan led off the inning with a double down the right field line. Amendola was hit by a pitch and then Dolan and Amendola pulled off a double steal to put runners on 2nd and 3rd. Newbauer reached on an error, allowing Dolan to score, to make the score 9-1. Newbauer stole 2nd and Zaluski walked to load the bases. Matt Sferra followed with a ground out to 2nd in which the 2nd baseman threw home to get the lead runner. However, the catcher threw the ball away at 1st trying to get a double play on Sferra, allowing Newbauer to score and moving Zaluski to 3rd. After another out was made, Reboul singled home Zaluski to give the Tigers an 11-1 victory.
