Usually, Erik Wilson dominates and a few runs is enough for a Chagrin victory. However, with Wilson being a little off, the Tigers picked up their starting pitcher by giving him plenty of run support in a 15-7 victory over Orange. Wilson battled his way through 5.1 innings. He gave up 6 runs on 9 hits while striking out 4 and walking 1. Wilson picked up the win and is now 6-1 on the season. Ben Cervelloni came on in relief and pitched the final 5 outs. Cervelloni gave up 1 run on 1 hit while walking 2 and striking out 3.
The Tigers jumped out on Orange by scoring 2 runs in the 1st inning. Jack Amendola singled to start the inning. After an out was made, Amendola stole 2nd base. After the 2nd out was made, Erik Wilson singled home Amendola to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. Jack Reboul followed by being hit by a pitch to put runners on 1st and 2nd. Colin Kennedy singled home Wilson for a 2-0 Tigers lead.
Orange came right back with 2 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning. However, Chagrin scored 5 times in the top of the 2nd inning. After an out was made, Adam Bencko reached on an error. Bencko moved to 2nd when Amendola was hit by a pitch. Both runners moved up a base on a wild pitch. Cole Newbauer followed with an infield hit to score Bencko. Amendola held up at 2nd base. Kyle Zaluski singled through the hole between 3rd and short to score Amendola and make the score 4-2. After the 2nd out was made, Reboul singled through the right side to make the score 5-2. Colin Kennedy followed with a double over the left fielder’s head to score both runners and make the score 7-2.
Chagrin scored twice more in the 3rd inning. Dawson Pierce led off with a walk. Bencko walked to put runners on 1st and 2nd. After an out was made, Newbauer singled to load the bases. Zaluski singled up the middle to score Pierce and give the Tigers an 8-2 lead. Wilson walked to score another run to make the score 9-2.
Orange scored a run in each of the next 2 innings to make the score 9-4. Chagrin got some much needed insurance runs in the top of the 6th inning. Max Faulds walked to start the inning. Pierce was hit by a pitch. Bencko bunted the runners over to 2nd and 3rd. Amendola followed with a 2 run single to make the score 11-4. Amendola stole 2nd and moved to 3rd on a balk call. Newbauer’s sacrifice fly scored Amendola to make the score 12-4. Zaluski and Wilson followed with back to back singles. Zaluski scored on Reboul’s RBI single to give Chagrin a 13-4 advantage.
Orange would not go away as the Lions scored 3 runs in the bottom of the inning to make the score 13-7. Chagrin got 2 more runs in the 7th inning. Faulds walked to start the inning. After 2 outs were made, the 2nd out being a fielder’s choice by Bencko in which Faulds was out at 2nd, Amendola singled to put runners on 1st and 3rd. Amendola stole 2nd to put runners on 2nd and 3rd. Newbauer followed with a laser over the left fielder’s head to score Bencko and Amendola for a 2 run double to make the score 15-7.
Jack Amendola was 3-5 with 4 runs, 2 RBI and 3 stolen bases. Cole Newbauer was 3-5 with a run, a double and 4 RBI. Kyle Zaluski was 3-5 with 2 runs and 2 RBI. Jack Reboul was 3-4 with a run, a double and 2 RBI. Erik Wilson was 2-4 with a run and 2 RBI. Colin Kennedy was 2-5 with a double and 3 RBI. Chagrin Falls clinches a share of the CVC championship with this victory. The Tigers are 17-5 overall and 12-0 in the CVC.
