Tigers Win on Senior Day in Walk Off Fashion

Game Date
May 10, 2019

Chagrin Falls made Senior Day exciting as the Tigers used a Jonathan Edwards suicide squeeze to win in walk off fashion 5-4 in 8 innings over Berkshire.  Cole Weiss started and pitched well. Weiss pitched 3 innings and gave up 1 run on 3 hits while walking none and striking out 7. Dylan Scheetz also threw the ball well as he pitched 2 innings of shutout baseball striking out 2 in the process.  Drew Beckwith pitched 2 innings and gave up 3 runs, 2 earned, on 5 hits while walking a batter and striking out a batter. Max Faulds pitched an inning of scoreless relief to pick up the victory. Faulds is now 2-1 on the season.

Trailing 1-0, Chagrin tied the game in the bottom of the 3rd inning.  Jack Amendola led off the inning by being hit by a pitch. Amendola stole 2nd and moved to 3rd on a Kyle Zaluski ground ball.  Sam Dolan singled by the 3rd baseman to score Amendola to tie the score at 1-1.

Chagrin took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the 5th inning.  Jonathan Edwards singled to start the inning. Amendola was hit by a pitch to put runners on 1st and 2nd.  Zaluski hit an infield single to load the bases. Dolan followed with a sacrifice fly to right to score Edwards.

In the bottom of the 6th, the Tigers scored two more runs, which turned out to be big runs.  After 2 outs were made, Charlie Greenlief singled. Will Tropp, running for Greenlief, moved to 2nd when Edwards walked.  Amendola followed with a triple to deep left-center field to score both runners for a 4-1 lead.

Those runs were important as the Badgers tied the game with 3 runs in the top of the 7th.  This set up for a dramatic finish in the bottom of the 8th inning. Hank Weiss started the inning with a walk.  Weiss moved to 2nd when the ball got by the 1st baseman on a pick-off play. Charlie Greenlief was intentionally walked.  Both runners moved up on a wild pitch. The game ended when Jonathan Edwards laid down a perfect suicide squeeze bunt to score Weiss for a 5-4 Chagrin victory.

Dawson Pierce was 2-3 with 2 doubles.  Chagrin Falls is now 20-4 on the year.
