For the 2nd straight day, Chagrin Falls’ pitchers threw a shutout against Orange. This time, Jack McMullen and Richard Higley combined to throw a 1-hit shutout en route to an 11-0 victory for the Tigers. McMullen gave up an infield single to the leadoff hitter in the 1st inning. The Tigers’ pitchers retired the next 15 batters in a row. McMullen pitched 4 innings to get the win and move to 3-0 on the season. McMullen struck out 8 and did not walk a batter. Richard Higley pitched a scoreless 5th inning as he retired the side in order with 2 strike outs.
Chagrin scored a run in the top of the 1st inning. Will Tropp reached 1st on a dropped 3rd strike. Tropp stole 2nd, stole 3rd and scored on a passed ball to make the score 1-0.
Chagrin scored 9 times in the 2nd inning. Donny Hardy started the rally by getting hit by a pitch. Justin Lewinski followed by walking to put runners on 1st and 2nd. Nick Calabrese was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Mikey Amendola, Will Tropp and Charlie Greenlief each walked to push across a run each time to make the score 4-0. Andrew Kirkpatrick singled to right to score Amendola and make the score 5-0. Dawson Pierce was hit by a pitch to make the score 6-0. After 2 outs were made, Justin Lewisnki singled to left to score Greenlief. Kirkpatrick also scored on the play when the left fielder misplayed the ball. Pierce moved to 3rd on the play. Lewinski immediately stole 2nd on the next pitch. Calabrese lined a single to right to score Pierce and Lewinski for the 8th and 9th runs of the inning to make the score 10-0.
The Tigers scored the final run of the game in the top of the 3rd inning. After 2 outs were made, Jack McMullen reached on an error. McMullen scored on Donny Hardy’s RBI double over the left fielder’s head to make the score 11-0.
Nick Calabrese was 1-1 with a run and 2 RBI. Donny Hardy was 1-3 with a run, a double and an RBI.
