Geneva Comes Back to Stun the Tigers

Chagrin had a comfortable 5 run lead going into the bottom of the 7th but Geneva tied it up in the 7th and won it in the 8th 10-8.  Andrew Kirkpatrick started the game and pitched extremely well.  Kirkpatrick pitched 6 innings and gave up 4 runs, 1 earned, on 6 hits as he walked 1 and struck out 5.  Sven Nielsen came in and pitched .2 innings and gave up 4 runs on 3 hits while walking 2 and striking out a batter.  Brett Vaccaro took the loss.  Vaccaro pitched 1.1 innings and gave up 2 runs on 2 hits while walking 3 and striking out 2.  Vaccaro is now 2-2 on the season.  

Chagrin scored 2 runs in the 1st inning.  Donny Hardy singled to start the game.  Hardy went to 2nd on a balk.  Brett Vaccaro doubled him home for a 1-0 lead.  Vaccaro then moved to 3rd on a balk.  After 2 outs were made, Leo Fornara walked and Nick Calabrese was hit by a pitch to load the bases.  Gavin Stevens walked to push across a run and make the score 2-0.  

In the bottom of the 2nd inning, after an out was made, Hardy singled down the 3rd base line.  Vaccaro walked to put runners on 1st and 2nd.  Calvin Hill walked to load the bases.  Kirkpatrick walked to score a run and make the score 3-0.  Fornara followed with a fielder’s choice to score Vaccaro for a 4-0 lead.  Calabrese walked to load the bases.  Stevens was hit by a pitch to push across another run to make the score 5-0.  Andrew Bazzone scored a run when he reached base on an error to give Chagrin a 6-0 lead.  

Geneva scored 3 unearned runs in the top of the 5th to cut the lead in half.  In the bottom of the 5th, Drew Mergenhagen led off the inning with a single.  Donny Hardy singled to put runners on 1st and 2nd.  Mergenhagen scored on Vaccaro’s single to right to make the score 7-3.  Hardy moved to 3rd on the play.  After an out was made, Kirkpatrick hit a sacrifice fly to center to give Chagrin an 8-3 lead.  

The Eagles scored 5 times in the top of the 7th to tie the game.  The Tigers had a chance to win it in the bottom of the inning but couldn’t score with the bases loaded and 1 out.  Geneva scored twice in the top of the 8th and held on to win the game.  

Donny Hardy was 3-5 with 3 runs.  Brett Vaccaro was 2-3 with 2 runs, a double and 2 RBI.  Chagrin Falls is now 12-6 overall and 8-2 in the CVC.
